Oliver Terry Stockton-on-Tees

About

It all started for me in 1994 at the age of 13. I got my first electric drum pads and my love for music and drums grew from there. A year later, I started taking lessons at Newcastle drum centre and played on a full scale kit. My passion, skills, experience and desire to be the best on my instrument grew year after year. I played in various bands around the Newcastle area and then decided to take my skills to the next level.

At the age of twenty two I had completed my Guildhall grade 8 under tuition from Tommy Graham and wanted to improve further on my instrument. I decided to go for an audition at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music as this is one of the best independent music Universities in the country. After being accepted, I completed, and passed with merit, a Higher National Diploma in drums / music. I studied under world class player Adam Bushel who has done session work for the likes of Sheryl Crow, Faithless and Celtus. This opened so many new doors and gave me the skills and knowledge that got me where I am today. I have built up a good reputation and I now teach students in Newcastle, Sunderland and Teesside area. I am also involved in session work and played for a very successfully band called The Flytes who have toured France, America, and the UK. The Flytes played with Gomez and The Bluetones and sold out stage 2 of the Newcastle O2 Academy Including finals in live and unsigned in London.

With the skills and experience I have gained, I have a very high pass rate for students taking Trinity Guildhall grades. This has lead to many students going on to be successful musicians and achieving good music GCSE grades, diplomas or degrees. Many of my students have even gone into full time music teaching in schools and full time work on cruise ships as drummers. This has given me a sense of achievement and I take a great deal of pride and passion in my work.

My aim is to make my students flourish and be the best they can be on their instrument with a view to achieving all aspirations and goals in a business that is very challenging and ever changing.
